City Palace - Jaipur

The City Palace is the most prominent and outstanding landmark in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. In other word, it is the star tourist attraction of Jaipur, famed as Pink City. It is a must visit on Jaipur tours. This palatial palace was the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur, the head of the Kachwaha Rajput clan. Located northeast of the centre of the grid patterned Jaipur, this elegant palace was built between 1729 and 1732, initially by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber.
City Palace is in fact a palace complex housing many other elegant palaces such as Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal. Chandra Mahal : Also Called Chandra Niwas, the Chandra Mahal (Moon Palace) is the most imposing building located on the western end of the palace complex. It is a seven-storied building. Each floor of this building has its specific name such as Sukh Niwas, Rang Mandir, Pitam Niwas, Chabi Niwas, Shri Niwas and Mukut Mahal. The palace is known for unique & beautiful paintings, mirror works on walls and exquisite floral beautifications. There is beautiful peacock gate at the entry to the Mahal.
Mubarak Mahal : Mubarak Mahal means the Auspicious Palace. This magnificent building was built by Maharaja Madho Singh II as reception centre in the late 19th century. It depicts a marvelous fusion of the Islamic, Rajput and European styles of architecture. Presently, it is a prosperous museum housing a variety of textiles such as pashminas and silk saris.
Diwan-I-Khas : Diwan-I-Khas is a marble floored chamber. Located between the Armory and the Art Gallery, it was a private audience hall of the kings.
Diwan-I-Aam : Diwan-I-Aam (Sabha Niwas or Hall of Public Audience) is a charming and captivating chamber. The ceiling of this building is impressively painted in rich and gold colors. The ceiling still looks very impressive and never fails to grab visitors’ attentions. There are two large elephants (each made out of single marble rock) at the entry gateway of this building.
Maharani Palace : The Maharani Palace was the residence of the royal queens. Present this beautiful building is a museum housing weapons used by the kings during the war campaigns. The ceiling of this palace has exquisite frescoes.
Govind Dev Ji Temple : Govind Dev Ji Temple is one of must visit attractions inside the palace complex. It is dedicated to the Hindu God Lord Krishna. This beautiful temple was built in the early 18th century. It has paintings of Indian art and European chandeliers. The ceiling of this temple is beautified in gold. It provides spectacular views of the magnificent Chandra Mahal (Moon Palace).
