Jaisalmer Fort
Jaisalmer is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the land of monuments – Rajasthan, India. The desert city of Jaisalmer also known as the Golden City known for its magnificent Jaisalmer Fort (also known as the Sonar Quila or Golden Fort). The interior part of this magnificent fort is painted and tiled in a typical Rajput style. The Jaisalmer Fort has exquisite architecture. The balconies, battlements, bastions and long stretching walls of the fort overwhelm superbly during sunrise and sunset. The Golden Fort complex houses several temples, havelis of rich merchants, security sources and residential complexes of armies & merchants.
The magnificent Jaisalmer Fort is 250 feet tall and armored by an overwhelming granite wall which is thirty feet high. There are 99 bastions in the Jaisalmer Fort complex. Out of 92 bastions were built between 1633 and 1647. The magnificent Jaisalmer Fort stands thirty metre over Jaisalmer City. The fort houses entire living area within mammoth battlements. One can get approached to the mammoth Jaisalmer Fort through Ganesh Pol, Bhoot Pol, Hawa Pol and Suraj Pol. Within the Jaisalmer Fort complex there is a group of Jain Temples which dates back from 12th to 15th centuries.
Jaisalmer is well-connected by road and rail from all the major cities of India. To arrive in Jaisalmer nearest airport is Jodhpur Airport. The golden city – Jaisalmer is also can be covered with the Palace on Wheels train.
