Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal literally means the “Water Palace”. Located in the middle of the picturesque Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur (the Pink City / capital of Rajasthan), the magnificent and impressive Jal Mahal was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the historic year of 1799 AD. In the 18th century the palace and the lake around were enlarged and renovated by Maharaja Jai Singh II.
Built in red sandstone, the Jal Mahal Palace is architecturally beautiful. It depicts the marvelous fusion of Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture. It provides spectacular view of the Man Sagar Lake and surrounding Nahargarh hills. The Jal Mahal Palace has five floors. Out of which four floors are under-water the lake and top floor is exposed. There Chhatris on the four corners of the palace; all are octagonal in shape. There are also semi-octagonal towers built with an elegant cupola on the each corner of the palace. The royal families of Jaipur used this palace for arranging royal duck shooting parties. With great zeal & zest royal families of Jaipur, Rajasthan take part in duck shooting game.
