Jantar Mantar Observatory, Jaipur
Jantar Mantar Royal Observatory is one of the most visited tourist attractions on Jaipur tours. It is one of the largest and best preserved five observatories of India. This magnificent observatory was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II between 1727 and 1734. Sawai Jai Singh II built this observatory with the help of skilled workers and managed to create a collection of astronomical instruments chiseled out of stone and most of which continues to provide accurate information to this day. Samrat Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra, Ram Yantra and Narivalaya Yantra are popular instruments at Jantar Mantar in Jaipur. The most striking instrument at Jantar Mantar Royal Observatory is giant Samrat Yantra. It is an imposing yellow edifice to the far right of the observatory complex. It has a 27 metre high gnomon arm set at an angel of 27 degree.
