Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur

Earlier called the Chintamani Fort and situated on a sheer hill in the Sun City – Jodhpur in the land of monuments – Rajasthan, India, the majestic Mehrangarh Fort was built in 1459 by Rao Jodha Ji, the founder of Jodhpur, when he shifted his capital from Mandore. The majestic Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest forts and a popular tourist destination in India. There are several beautiful and impressive palaces inside the mammoth Mehrangarh Fort which says a saga of hard sandstones yielding to the chisels of skilled Jodhpuri sculptures.

Located on a pompous height, 400 feet above the city of Jodhpur, and encircled by the impressive thick walls (17 feet and 68 feet high walls), this massive fort attracts the attentions of heritage monument lovers from all over the world. The fort has been a witness to the glory of a past era. To enter the majestic Mehrangarh Fort one has to cross seven gates.

There are many palaces inside the Mehrangarh Fort which are well-known for their elaborate carvings and sprawling courtyards. Some of major palaces inside this fort complex are Moti Mahal – the Pearl Palace, Sheesh Mahal – the Hall of Mirrors, Phool Mahal – the Palace of Flowers, Thakhat Villas – the chamber of Maharaja Thakhat Singh, Ajit Villas  and Umaid Villas. Moti Mahal has a skillfully carved stone screen and treasures. Ajit Villas demonstrates the royal costumes and musical instruments. Umaid Villas shows the Rajput miniature paintings.

To visit the massive Mehrangarh Fort, the city of Jodhpur can be easily arrived. The city is well-connected by road and rail from all the major cities of India. Jodhpur has also airport and well-connected by air from some major cities of India and abroad.
