Mount Abu Travel Guide
Mount Abu is the highest peak in the Aravalli Range (locally called Mewat Hills) of Rajasthan. Located in Sirohi district it is the only hill station of Rajasthan, India. It is a picturesque hill town and gifted with abundant natural beauty, serene & scenic surroundings. It is located at the distance of only 58 km from Palanpur, a town in Gujarat. The highest peak of this mountain town is Guru Shikhar, at 1722 meters above sea level. It is famously described as a “Green Oasis” in blazing desert of Rajasthan, as its heights are home to enchanting rivers, crystal clear & scenic lakes, gushing waterfalls and evergreen woods. Arbudaanchal is the ancient name of Mount Abu – the only hill station of Rajasthan.
Tourist Attractions in Mount Abu
Mount Abu, the only hill station in Rajasthan, is gifted with amazing abundant natural beauty. It is positioned at an elevation of 1220 meters. This picturesque mountain town has been an admired retreat from the scorching heat of Rajasthan and adjacent Indian state of Gujarat for centuries. Tourists can enjoy rich flora and fauna at Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary which was established in the year of 1960. The sanctuary covers 290 square km area of the mountain. The sanctuary is very popular among nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Mount Abu is worldwide famous for exquisite Jain temples. It is home to a number of Jain temples which are architecturally beautiful. The Dilwara Jain Temple Complex is a must visit on Mount Abu tour. The temple complex houses many Jain temples which are beautifully carved of graceful white marble. They were built between the 11th and 13th centuries. Vimal Vasahi Temple is the oldest temple at the complex. This temple was built in 1031 AD by Vimal Shah. The temple is dedicated to the first of the Jain Tirthankaras.
The Achalgarh Fort is also a worth visit on tour to Mount Abu. This magnificent fort was built by Rana Kumbha of Mewar in the 14th century. The fort complex houses many exquisite Jain temples such as the Achaleswar Mahadev Temple (built in 1412) and the Kantinath Temple (built in 1553).
Apart from many Jain Temples, Mount Abu is also home to many Hindu temples such as Adhar Devi Temple, Shri Raghunath Temple, Dattatreya Temple, Durga Temple, Ambika Mata Temple, etc.

Nakki Lake is another popular attraction in Mount Abu. It is an ancient sacred lake, according to Hindu myth. This ancient lake is called Nakki Lake because it was dug out from Nakhs (Nails). Tourists can relax around this lake. They can also enjoy boat ride on the lake and horse ride around the lake. Famous Raghunath Temple and Maharaja Jaipur Palace are located near this picturesque lake.
Guru Shikhar is the highest peak in Mount Abu Hills. It is located at the distance of 15 km from the main town. The famous Dattatreya Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu) is located here. The peak overlooks the eye-catching lush greenery of the hill station. Honeymooners’ Point, Sunset Point, etc are also popular.
Mount Abu is also known for Madhuban. Madhuban is the headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University. There are many large buildings at Brahma Kumaris which are visited by devotees throughout the year.

How to Reach Mount Abu
The nearest airport is at Udaipur, 185 km away. Udaipur and Mount Abu is well-connected by taxis and buses. Abu Road is the nearest railway station which is located at 27 km away. Abu Road is well-connected by regular trail with major cities and towns of India.
